Beef Curry

What would you do with blade steak or flank steak, well here’s an idea for you!

Ingredients

500g Blade steak or Flank steak
1 Tablespoon of butter or ghee
1 Large onion,finely chopped
1 Garlic clove, crushed
1 Tablespoon of ground coriander
1 Heaped teaspoon of ground turmeric
½ Teaspoon of ground black pepper
6 Thin slices of fresh root ginger
2 Fresh green chillies
A pinch of ground chillies
2 Teaspoons of dessicated coconut
1¼ Cups pf water
Salt to taste
½ Cup of coconut cream

Method

1.Melt the butter in a large heavy pot,

2. Gently sauté the onion & garlic for 3-4 minutes.

3. Add the coriander, turmeric, cumin, pepper, ginger, chopped and ground chillies and the steak. Stir to coat the steak and let it cook for another 5 mins.

4. Pour in the water, cover and simmer over a low heat until the steak in tender.

5. When it is almost cooked, sprinkle with the coconut and stir in the coconut cream.

6. Continue cooking until done. Just before serving, sprinkle with a little salt.

Grandma’s Tip

This cut of meat needs to be cooked slowly for a good while, to make it nice and tender. I tend to cook it for about 4-5 hours.
